# Submit Your Pages to Bing and Every IndexNow Engine

> Use the free IndexNow submitter to tell Bing (the index ChatGPT search reads) and every IndexNow engine about new or fixed pages the moment you publish them.

ChatGPT search reads Bing's index, so it pays to tell Bing about a new or fixed page directly. IndexNow is the protocol for that: it tells Bing (and Seznam, Naver and Yandex) about new or fixed pages instead of waiting for a crawl. The free IndexNow submitter from Are you found by AI? generates your key, tells you where to host the one-time key file, and submits your URLs.

## Set up IndexNow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to the IndexNow tool">
    Open [areyoufoundbyai.com/tools/indexnow](https://areyoufoundbyai.com/tools/indexnow). The tool generates a key for you as soon as the page loads.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy your key">
    The key is a hexadecimal string (for example, `0a46923dd3164471a56d73e1714c07a2`). Keep it: the same key works for your site from then on, and you need it for both the key file and every submission. If you already have an IndexNow key, you can use that instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Host the key verification file">
    Create a plain-text file named `YOUR-KEY.txt` containing exactly your key and nothing else. Upload it so it is accessible at:

    ```
    https://yourdomain.com/YOUR-KEY.txt
    ```

    This file is how IndexNow verifies you own the site, and it is why nobody can submit for your domain without your say-so. It is a one-time step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit your URLs">
    Enter your domain and your key, paste your URLs (one per line, all on your domain) and select **Submit to IndexNow**. The tool checks that your key file is live, then submits the URLs to api.indexnow\.org, which passes them to Bing and every IndexNow engine. If the key file is not live or a URL is not on your domain, the submission fails with a message saying so.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What happens after you submit

One submission reaches Bing and the other IndexNow engines (Seznam, Naver and Yandex). Because ChatGPT search reads Bing's index, getting a page into Bing is the route to it appearing in ChatGPT search results. Submission tells the engines about the page; it does not guarantee when or whether it is indexed, or that any engine will name you.

<Note>
  IndexNow only reaches Bing and the other IndexNow engines (Seznam, Naver, Yandex). ChatGPT search is not an IndexNow engine itself; it benefits because it reads Bing's index. Google does not take part in IndexNow, so use Google Search Console for Google separately.
</Note>

## When to use IndexNow

Submit to IndexNow any time you make a change that should be discovered quickly:

* After publishing a new page or blog post
* After fixing or rewriting content for AI citability
* After adding or updating JSON-LD schema markup
* After creating or updating your `llms.txt` file
* After fixing a previously blocked AI crawler in `robots.txt`
* After launching a new product or service page

<Accordion title="Can I automate submissions instead of doing them manually?">
  Yes. Pro subscribers get auto-ping: when the weekly scan sees your pages change, the pages are submitted for you. See [pricing](https://areyoufoundbyai.com/pricing) for the Pro plan.

  If you prefer to do it yourself, you can call the [IndexNow API](https://www.indexnow.org/documentation) from your CMS publish workflow with your key and the list of URLs.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="How do I know the submission worked?">
  The tool shows a confirmation message when the submission is accepted, or the reason it failed. To check indexing afterwards, look the page up in Bing Webmaster Tools.
</Accordion>

<Tip>
  Make IndexNow submission the last step in your publishing checklist: publish, add schema, update `llms.txt`, then submit. That way Bing is pointed at the finished version of the page.
